  • Treadmill Stress Test You might take a treadmill stress test in a general physical exam, or if you have been experiencing any cardiac warning signs.

This test is taken in conjunction with an E KG. After attaching electrode patches to your skin, the technician will ask you to begin walking on a treadmill, which starts slowly at first and increases speed and elevation every few minutes. During the test, your blood pressure and E KG are constantly monitored.

Sometimes Thallium or Cardiolyte is injected into your IV These are substances that can be scanned via a special camera. When you are finished walking on the treadmill you will lie down on a table underneath a camera. This camera will take images of your heart. About two hours later another set of images will be taken.

The treadmill stress test can help determine whether you have a coronary blockage, high blood pressure, or if your heart is being affected in other ways.

    Non-Exercise Stress Test
This stress test does not include walking on a treadmill. Instead, a medication is given thru your IV to make the heart beat faster. Then Thallium or Cardiolyte is injected and images are taken with a camera.
