Vascular disease is any condition that affects the circulatory system, which includes the veins and arteries that transport blood throughout the body. Most forms of vascular disease present no symptoms or only subtle ones and hence are known as “silent killers.”
Health Impact Vascular disease can cause stroke, coronary artery disease, cardiovascular disease, sudden death, loss of limbs, and disability. Vascular disease is prevalent throughout the world, contributing to the two leading causes of death worldwide: cardiovascular disease and stroke.
Types of Vascular Disease Vascular diseases manifest as different conditions. Three frequent forms of vascular disease are:
