While heart disease is certainly more widely recognized, disease of the outlying “peripheral” arteries — particularly those in the abdomen, kidneys, neck, brain, arms and legs — affects approximately eight million Americans, of which only 25 percent seek treatment. Oakwood Hospital & Medical Center was recently named one of the nation's 100 Top Heart hospitals by Thomson Reuters 8 out of 10 years. The annual award for cardiovascular services objectively measures performance on key criteria at the nation's top performing acute-care hospitals.
