  Lipid Management
Lowering your cholesterol can decrease your risk of future heart attacks.

What does lipid management do?
If you already have heart disease, studies have shown that lowering your cholesterol can decrease your risk of future heart attacks and bypass surgery.

What about cholesterol lowering medication?
Although cholesterol lowering medication is not for everyone, studies suggest some people may need medication in addition to making changes in their eating habits to lower their blood cholesterol. The Cardiac Rehabilitation program is a comprehensive approach to recovery, which includes Lipid Management. Managing lipid levels helps people with high cholesterol lower their risk of heart disease. Our skilled Cardiac Rehab staff will work with you to identify your need for cholesterol lowering medication and determine whether or not to continue taking medication.

Our staff will advise you on taking your medication and the side effects to look for. If you experience any problems with your medication, our staff will be available to help you. During this time you will continue to see your primary care physician for your other medical care. Your primary physician or cardiologist will be continually contacted regarding your lipid management.

How does the Cardiac Rehab Program manage lipids?
The Cardiac Rehab Program is a phased approach to a full recovery for patients suffering from heart disease. Phase I occurs while you are still recovering in the hospital, Phase II occurs after you have been home for two weeks. Phase III is a maintenance program to keep you on track and ensure continued improvement and health.

The program as a whole includes:

  • Medically supervised exercise sessions
  • Education sessions for you and your family
  • Individual and group dietary consultations provided by a registered dietitian
  • Social interaction with others who have had similar cardiac experiences
The exercise, diet, education, medication, and communication all contribute not only to effectively managing your lipid levels, but improving your health overall.
