Customers have told us one of their biggest dissatisfiers in any emergency room is waiting to begin treatment. Based on their feedback, and a series of process improvements, a System-wide redesign of Oakwood’s Emergency Rooms has been ongoing since early 2006. Every department that plays a role in emergency care is involved, including lab services, radiology, pharmacy and patient accounting.

The Zero Wait Program calls for a health care professional to begin triage immediately when a patient enters the ER and then move that person through the care pathway, eliminating the traditional “wait” in the ER. The concept was created around improving care and exceeding the service expectations of patients.

The redesign will help improve the way our customers are seen and treated so that the staff within the ER can continue to provide high quality, timely care to emergency patients.
