Oakwood 'Branches' out with new gift shop concept

Dearborn, Mich. – April  The gift shop at the Oakwood Hospital & Medical Center has a new name, a new look and the same goal: to provide a unique shopping environment and help support the many advocacy efforts that are a part of the mission of the Oakwood Healthcare System (OHS).

Officials from the healthcare system helped cut the ribbon on the renovated space, now called ‘Branches—Gifts in Bloom,’ on April 4. The shop is the result of a partnership with Morrison Healthcare Food Services.

“We’ve worked closely with Morrison to create a gift shop that offers merchandise as well as services that will make life easier for patients, their families, visitors and associates,” said Joseph Diederich, executive vice-president and chief operating officer of Oakwood Healthcare, Inc (OHI). “We’re proud of the results. We think this will be a great addition.”

A new floor, new shelving arranged to provide a more open space and new lighting were a part of the renovation, which transformed the shop from a typical hospital gift store into an upscale boutique. Branches offers a wide variety of merchandise, ranging from general items like toothbrushes, stamps and nail polish to children’s games, Fossil watches, sunglass and handbags—even high-end electronics such as iPods, camcorders or digital cameras. A portion of each sale is donated to the Oakwood Foundation, which raises funds to support the many philanthropic efforts of the Oakwood Healthcare System.

“Our focus is to offer items and services that are important to patients, families and associates,” said Robynn Kuntzmann, Morrison retail marketing manager. “We’ve paid special attention to offering merchandise that appeals to children as well as their families. We want the gift shop to be a convenient place for them to get whatever they need—from a forgotten toothbrush to a soft plush toy to a tube of mascara or comfortable slippers.”

Branches is located at the Oakwood Hospital & Medical Center, 18101 Oakwood Boulevard in Dearborn. It is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
