Oakwood executive honored with Woman of Achievement Award

Of all the people in the audience at the Women of Achievement Luncheon on Dec. 2, the most important one for Elizabeth Goch may be the youngest: her six-year-old granddaughter.

Goch, who has worked for the Oakwood Healthcare System for 39 years, is one of the honorees at the annual luncheon and said she’s proud to be a living role model for her granddaughter, as well as being recognized for what she’s done.

“It’s about honoring women who serve the community and make a difference,” she said.

Goch is the division president of post-acute care for Oakwood and vice-chair and president of Oakwood Health Promotions. She is being honored in the Health & Wellness category as a Woman of Achievement, an award that has been handed out by the YWCA for 20 years. It recognizes women that further the mission of the YWCA—of empowering women and eliminating racism—as they make a positive contribution to the community.

Goch has been a board director and chairperson of the Dearborn Chamber of Commerce, a former board member and chair of the Michigan Association of Homes and Services for the Aging, the Michigan delegate for the American Association of Homes and Service and has served as a board member for the Michigan Health Academy, a charter school that trains future health care professionals. She has a bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University, a MBA from the University of Michigan and a Nursing Home Administrator license.

In her current role with Oakwood, her goal is to improve the quality of life for senior citizens, whether they live in an assisted living facility or on their own.

“I like the fact that, in our division, our vision is to enable older adults to lead healthier lives in whatever place they call home,” she said.
She said she was surprised to learn she had been nominated for the award and will be humbled to accept it in front of an audience filled with distinguished professionals who would themselves be worthy of the honor.

“To be chosen is very meaningful,” she said. “I’ll accept this honor with a great deal of pride.”

Honorees were recognized at the Women of Achievement and Woman of the Year Award Luncheon on Dec. 2. U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade was the key note speaker. Other honorees include: Communications/The Arts - Laila AlHusinni, Journalist; Business Leadership- Sandy Mull, Southern Wayne County Regional Chamber; Government/Law – Susan Rowe, Wayne City Council; Leadership in Education – Karen Donald, Community Advocate; Dedicated Volunteer –Sandy Boulton, Boulton & Associates; Young Woman/Professional – Chrishonda Smith, Trinity Health; and Senior Woman – Maggie Allesee, Community Activist.
