Oakwood nursing homes ranked among best in state

The Oakwood Heritage Hospital Bone and Joint Skilled Rehabilitation Center has once again ranked as one of the best nursing home facilities in the state, according to the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (USCMMS). The specialized center, at Oakwood Heritage Hospital (OHH) was ranked second out of 427 ranked facilities in the state. The Oakwood Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center—Dearborn also received high marks and was included on the list.
“We are very proud of this recognition,” said Kelly Smith, division president of OHH. “It is validation of the hard work the team does every day to make sure our patients always come first.”
The USCMMS ranks facilities on a five-star system based on the outcomes of CMS Health Inspections—including annual surveys and complaint investigations—as well as quality measures and nurse to patient staffing ratios. The Heritage Bone and Joint Skilled Rehabilitation Center received an overall five-star rating, with five stars for inspections and staffing ratios. It was the top ranked facility, meaning rated # 1 in the state, in terms of the lowest number of violations—the facility has only been cited once during its three-year history. It received a five-star ranking last year, as well. The facilities are ranked in 19 quality different quality measures that include falls prevention policies, use of antipsychotics, catheter usage, weight loss, pressure ulcers, rehab outcomes and pain control. The 14-bed Heritage Bone and Joint Skilled Rehabilitation Center met or exceeded both the state and national averages for each one of them.
The Center is yet another component in the continuum of care for patients undergoing orthopaedic procedures (such as elective joint replacement) in Southeast Michigan. The modern, beautifully finished environment is designed to enhance the patient’s recovery and promote independence in mobility. At the center, patients are encouraged to do as much as they can on their own, while having a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nursing professionals, occupational therapists, physical therapists, recreational therapists, social workers and other medical professionals available to assist patients and families 24 hours a day with any medical condition, pain and incision management, education and preparation for discharge. Patient and physician focused, the center will provide care coordination and advanced technology resulting in exceptional high quality care and clinical outcomes. Patient satisfaction rankings at the 99th percentile are among the very highest in the nation across similar rehabilitation centers.
The Oakwood Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center—Dearborn also received an overall five-star rating, with four-star ratings in health inspections and nurse staffing, as well as a five-star rating in quality measures.
