Oakwood mourns passing of Frank Padzieski
Friday, January 13, 2012
Officials at Oakwood Healthcare mourn the passing of Frank Padzieski, a well-known business leader and philanthropist in the greater Dearborn community.
Mr. Padzieski passed away on Jan. 3, 2012, at the age of 103.
“He was a great friend and a wonderful benefactor,” said Carla O’Malley, executive director of the
Oakwood Foundation
. “By founding The Sanctuary - in Memory of Mary T. Padzieski at
Oakwood Hospital & Medical Center
, he left a lasting legacy of faith and healing that will continue to provide peace and comfort for generations to come.”
Born Oct. 4, 1908 in Erie, PA, Padzieski was the president of Macon Enterprises. Known for his love of the arts—particularly music—he contributed to many causes throughout his long life. Most recently, he was the honorary chairman of the campaign to renovate and expand the Interfaith Sanctuary at the Oakwood Hospital & Medical Center (OHMC) in Dearborn, a $1.3 million project that got under way on his 102nd birthday. His vision, now fully realized, was to provide a place of peace and healing for all—regardless of their faith or cultural background.
“It was his generosity and vision that made this project possible,” said Michael Geheb, MD, executive vice president at Oakwood Healthcare. As the head of OHMC during the expansion campaign, Geheb served as corporate sponsor of the donation drive.
“It is only fitting that the Sanctuary is located at the center of the hospital—it reflects that the spirit of healing is at the heart of the hospital—as it was in the heart of Mr. Padzieski, as well,” Geheb added. “He will be sorely missed.”
He was also active with the Dearborn Rotary Club and a supporter of the Dearborn Symphony Orchestra and the university of Michigan-Dearborn. The Padzieski Art Gallery at Dearborn's Ford Community & Performing Arts Center is named in honor.
Mr. Padzieski was the beloved husband of the late Mary T., dear father of Richard (and his late wife, Mary), Joanna Cortright (Richard), Robert (Ginny) and the late Gerald (Nancy). Grandfather of Rebecca, Meg, Amy, Jennie and Sharyn. Great grandfather of Phaedra, Victoria and Nani. Brother of Genevieve Silka and Mary Herbst.
A memorial mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 27 at St. Barbara’s Church in Dearborn.
