Oakwood employees celebrate another successful fundraising campaign

Employees at Oakwood Healthcare, Inc (OHI) have continued to show their generosity with the amount they give back to the communities they serve.

For the seventh consecutive year, the donations generated through the annual Community Giving Campaign have eclipsed the previous year’s total. In 2011, the campaign raised $823,943, exceeding last year’s total by more than $23,000, according to John O’Rourke, senior development officer for the Oakwood Foundation.

“Even in these tough times, we have more employees giving than ever before,” said Brian Connolly, President & CEO of Oakwood Healthcare, Inc. “It’s very inspiring, and it all goes to a good cause.”

Employees are asked in October of each year to contribute to any number of programs provided by OHI and the United Way of Southeastern Michigan. The donations, which are completely voluntary, can take the form of weekly payroll deductions, one-time payroll deductions, check donations or by donating Combined Time Off (CTO) hours.

In 2011, employees of the Oakwood Physician Services department, the Post Acute Services department and at Oakwood Annapolis Hospital were recognized for achieving a two percentage point increase in employee giving, O’Rourke said. Oakwood Physician Services won the coveted Champion Trophy for achieving the highest percentage increase in contributions to the Campaign. Individual Oakwood departments received a bronze, silver or gold award based on the percent of employees contributing to the Campaign, with a minimum of 50 percent.

“We are very appreciative of the generosity of our employees,” said Paul Conway, senior vice president of human resources. “Every day we give our time and talents to serve the community by providing the best care available. This is another way we can ensure that our patients come first, and to ensure they have access to programs that would otherwise go unfunded.”
