Oakwood Healthcare System appoints new board members

Oakwood Healthcare System welcomed two additions to its board of trustees recently.

Valerie Parisi, MD, of Birmingham and Ann Kalass, of Northville were recently appointed.

Dr. Parisi, current Dean of the Wayne State University School of Medicine, has worked closely with Oakwood to build a long-standing relationship with Wayne State University.

An obstetrician and gynecologist, Dr. Parisi is a national leader in medical education and in the evaluation and certification of physicians. In 2010, Crain’s Detroit Business named Dr. Parisi one of its Women to Watch for her leadership in strengthening the School of Medicine’s relationships with its clinical partners. She earned her M.D. from Brown University, an M.P.H. in Maternal and Child Health from the University of California-Berkeley School of Public Health, and an M.B.A. from the University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler School of Business.

Oakwood also welcomed Kalass, the current CEO of Starfish Family Services – a private, non-profit agency that has worked in partnership with Oakwood for many years.

Under Kalass' direction, Starfish opened a Family Resource Center at its agency headquarters in Inkster and opened an additional Lifespan Clinical Services site in Westland. Kalass received a master’s degree in business from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, and has brought a wealth of knowledge in management, financial analysis and marketing to Starfish Family Services.
