Oakwood unveils final phase of expansion at Heritage Hospital

Officials at Oakwood Healthcare unveiled the final phase of a multi-year expansion and renovation project this week with the opening of a new dedicated entrance to the recently completed Surgical Pavilion at Oakwood Heritage Hospital (OHH).

The project caps a three-year, $31 million investment at the hospital, located at 10000 Telegraph Road, just south of I-94, which included a new bone and joint orthopaedic patient care unit and a new surgical center.

“We are pleased to offer a comprehensive elective surgical program to our patients and community. We believe our team, facilities, technology and philosophy of exceptional patient care in Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation Medicine are unmatched in the region,” said Kelly Smith, Division President of Oakwood Heritage Hospital. “This investment shows that we continue to be committed to providing specialized care for the most important person in the hospital – our patient.”

Since 2010, improvements at OHH include:

• a 12-bed all private bone and joint patient care unit institute specializing in orthopaedic surgery and recovery

• a Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine providing individualized hyperbaric treatment for chronic wounds and other ailments

• a 14-bed all private specialty rehabilitation trauma unit designed for patients recovering from traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries and neurological trauma

• a state-of-the-art surgical pavilion, which includes eight operating rooms, two endoscopy rooms, 29 private pre-operative rooms and 12 large recovery bays

• a Specialized Pain Clinic for medical and surgical intervention options for patients dealing with chronic pain problems

• 100% renovated patient care rooms across all clinical units

• Emergency Department upgrades, both in terms of processes to improve throughput and new amenities to ensure patients and families are comfortable during their brief stay with us (all private bays or rooms, flat screen TVs, etc.)

• Skilled Nursing Patient Care Unit to help with the transition of patients from Operating Room to home. Unit is dedicated to the therapy and healing needs for patient undergoing various orthopaedic procedures such as hip or knee replacement.

The new Surgical Pavilion entrance ties all the improvements together and provides other amenities such as all private registration for scheduled patients and a family lounge designed with modern amenities and comfort in mind.
