The Oakwood Hospital & Medical Center (OHMC) in Dearborn was one of about a dozen hospitals nationwide to be honored for innovation in information technology by CareTech Solutions.
The hospital and its ‘Project ONE Team’ received the “Innovative Thinker” Rising Star Award from CareTech, which provides information technology and web services to more than 200 hospitals and health systems nationwide.
“The Rising Star Award program is an opportunity for CareTech to recognize its hospital partners who exemplify leadership in using information technology as a strategic advantage for their organization,” said Colleen Hanley, vice president of marketing, communications and government for CareTech.
Oakwood received the award for the successful implementation of OakCare, an electronic medical record system powered by Epic, at Oakwood Hospital & Medical Center on August 1, 2012. The award also acknowledges the team’s use of security automation in association with OakCare.
“The Rising Star Award recognizes hospitals that undertook significant IT initiatives in 2012 to advance the quality of patient care and deliver improved business results,” said Jim Giordano, CEO and president,
Paula Smith, Chief Information Officer (CIO) for Oakwood, said she appreciated CareTech’s recognition and praise for the Oakwood team.
“This award represents the hard work, innovation and commitment to quality of everyone involved in OakCare’s installation, including Super Users, physicians and employees from throughout the system,” she said. “OakCare is an effective tool for providing a great patient experience—one that is safe, effective and efficient—because of the caring people who use it.”
