Car Seat Safety

Be sure you're restraining your child safely.

Always safety restrain your child!

Children under 8 and under 4’9” tall must be in a child restraint. A child restraint can be a car seat with harness straps or a booster seat used with the vehicle’s lap and shoulder belt.

What Seat to Use?
Some children under age 8 still fit in a regular child seat. Check the child seat owner’s manual for the weight limit of the harness straps. If your child has reached that limit, you may need to get a seat with a higher weight limit or use a booster seat.

Booster Seats
Remember a booster seat must be used with a lap and shoulder belt, NEVER a lap belt only.

There are two types of booster seats, no-back and high-back.

To find out what type your child needs call Oakwood’s child passenger safety program at 313.586.5488. Booster seats are available at major retailers. To find a child seat check up event near you or for more information on child restraints, call Oakwood’s child passenger safety program 313.586.5488.
