Red Tie Ball a tremendous success

The annual Oakwood Red Tie Ball surpassed expectations again this year, making it another 'red hot night' on the ice.

Presented by ER One in Memory of Dr. Gary Christopher, the sixth annual extravaganza took place on the ice at Joe Louis Arena on May 7 generating more than $436,000 for the Center for Exceptional Families. The event attracted its largest crowd ever, with about 480 elegantly-dressed, generous attendees. They were treated to a delicious strolling dinner, cocktails, tours of the Red Wings locker rooms, photo opportunities in front of the 2008 Stanley Cup Championship banner, a wide selection of silent auction items and a fantastic live auction on items as fabulous as a trip to a Red Wings away game—on ‘Red Bird,’ the team plane—as well as a beautiful vacation in the Cayman Islands, as well as tickets to the American Idol finale show, and more.

Guests appreciated a special children’s performance provided by the Detroit Youth Choir, led by Anthony White and Melismatic, a Canadian quintet led by Sarah Preney. The night really heated up when “INTRIGUE” took the stage, giving everyone the chance to dance the night away.

What truly made the night so special was the generosity of the attendees. Their donations will provide more than 2,000 medical clinic visits, 7,000 therapy sessions and diagnostic services for about 275 new patients for the CEF. A heartfelt thank you to all!
