Oakwood honored as one of ‘101 best and brightest’ places to work
Thursday, August 18, 2011
Dearborn, Mich. – August – For the eighth consecutive year, the Oakwood Healthcare System (OHS) was recognized as one of the top
101 Best and Brightest
Companies to work for in the Detroit Metropolitan area.
The distinction is handed out by the Michigan Business and Professional Association (MBPA), based on an evaluation from an independent research firm that looks at key measures in several different categories that relate to how well the organization values its employees.
“At Oakwood, we have always believed that our team is the key to our success,” said Brian Connolly, President & CEO of Oakwood Healthcare. “We appreciate the hard work they do every day in providing excellent care to the people we serve.”
Categories include: Communication, Community Initiatives, Compensation and Benefits, Diversity and Multiculturalism, Employee Education and Development, Employee Engagement and Commitment, Recognition and Retention, Recruitment and Selection, Small Business and Work-Life Balance.
Oakwood has a broad Service Excellence program that is designed to foster a great working environment for employees and volunteers and to encourage them to build their leadership skills as well as to improve care for patients and their families. Oakwood has also developed several programs that recognize employees for their efforts, from the ‘Bravo!’ program where employees can thank their colleagues for going above and beyond their duties, to the Every Day Hero program, which recognizes staff members who have had a lasting impact on the lives of patients, to programs that cultivate their diversity and talents, such as the creative writing and employee art programs offered through Oakwood’s Arts for the Spirit.
“This year’s 101 award recipients stand out from most businesses in that they have exceeded traditional human resource practices to recruit, develop, motivate and retain their employees,” said Jennifer Kluge,
MBPA
President “They acknowledge the value their employees have on affecting the success of their company.”
J. Paul Conway, senior vice president, human resources of Oakwood Healthcare, said valued employees and successful organizations are inextricably intertwined.
“If you have a diverse, engaged, and satisfied workforce you will provide better service—no matter what line of work you’re in,” he said. “We’re proud to receive this distinction again because it is a validation of our continued commitment to our staff, our patients and our community. It shows that not only is Oakwood a great place to receive quality care, it’s a great place to work.”
