Oakwood announces new director of OB/GYN education
Monday, April 23, 2012
Dr. Theodore (“Ted”) B. Jones has been selected as program director of Ob/Gyn Education at Oakwood Hospital & Medical Center in Dearborn (OHMC).
Dr. Jones, who has been a member of the full-time faculty at Wayne State University School of Medicine (WSU SOM) since completion of his fellowship in 1991, will now be in charge of Oakwood’s Ob/Gyn residency training program for the teaching of graduate physicians in Ob/Gyn. He will also oversee the administration of Oakwood’s Ob/Gyn employed physician clinical practices, and will participate in planning and implementing medical student and CME programs. He will work closely with the OHMC Department of Ob/Gyn and OHS Women’s services leadership, and provide leadership in Ob/Gyn research in this role, as well.
“His education and experience make him the perfect fit for this important role,” said Mark Hannis, MD, Director of Medical Education for the Oakwood Healthcare System.
Dr. Jones received his Bachelor of Science from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia and completed his medical degree at Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. He was a National Health Service Corp scholar and spent three years in rural Arkansas to satisfy his commitment. He completed his fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) at Wayne State University/Hutzel Hospital. He is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG), for which he is also a subspecialty board examiner.
In addition, Dr. Jones remains on the faculty at WSU School of Medicine, where he is now Vice Chair for Oakwood WSU Programs in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He has served as program director, Associate Chair for Education and, most recently, interim Chair of the WSU SOM Department of Ob/Gyn. He has been Division Chief for MFM at WSU SOM and Chief of Obstetrics for Hutzel Women’s Hospital until this appointment. He is a member of numerous professional societies, including the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine and the Association of Professors in Gynecology and Obstetrics.
Oakwood's four-year Ob/Gyn residency training program accepts four new residents each year. With large clinical volume and sub-specialty representation in maternal fetal medicine, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, gynecologic oncology, and urogynecology, the Oakwood program offers comprehensive training in all facets of women's healthcare. More than 6,000 major and minor gynecologic procedures are performed at Oakwood every year and there are more than 5,000 deliveries each year at Oakwood hospitals.
