Oakwood embraces ‘Fit-friendly’ title with new wellness center

With a long-standing commitment to cultivating a healthy workforce and providing employees and their families with opportunities to build healthier lives, Oakwood Healthcare opened a new Physical Therapy and Wellness Center on Dec. 17, 2012.

Located across the street from Oakwood Hospital and Medical Center at 17101 Rotunda Drive in Dearborn, this recently renovated facility will offer Oakwood employees, volunteers, physicians, contractors and their families a full-service fitness and wellness center focused on enhancing their physical and emotional well-being.

“Maintaining a healthy workforce is paramount to the overall success of Oakwood,” said Brian Connolly, president and CEO, Oakwood Healthcare. “The opening of our new PT and Wellness Center is major step forward in our ongoing efforts to make available abundant and convenient health and wellness options for our workforce and their families.”

Oakwood has partnered with the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit, who will manage the fitness and wellness operations of the facility. The Wellness Center will host a wide range of amenities and activities managed by highly trained and experienced staff, providing fun and effective fitness and wellness offerings to members of all ages and interests. The new facility will also house some of Oakwood’s physical therapy and rehabilitation operations, as well.

Programs and facilities like these have helped Oakwood earn a sixth consecutive national designation as a Fit-friendly Worksite from the American Heart Association, which annually evaluates companies that create a culture of physical health and activity within the workplace.

“Oakwood has made healthy living among our workforce a cornerstone of our culture,” said Connolly. “This type of recognition is important for our continued assessment of efforts to improve the overall health of the entire Oakwood Team.”
