Oakwood web site honored for best design, outstanding achievement

For the eighth consecutive year, Oakwood's web site has been honored for its quality and design.

The site, www.oakwood.org, has been consistently recognized for excellence since 2004 and recently earned another Gold Award in web design through the eHealthcare Leadership Award program as well as a WebAward for Outstanding Achievement in Website Development from the Web Marketing Association.

“We are dedicated to improving the user experience on our website and this is a validation of a lot of hard work and innovative thinking,” said Dave Stanis, Oakwood’s director of digital communications. “Often, our web site is the first point of contact for potential patients and we want to provide as much information we can in an easy to navigate format. Receiving these industry awards lets us know we’ve successfully done that.”

The eHealthcare Leadership Award is the industry’s most reputable award recognition program. This year, 121 judges familiar with healthcare and the internet judged more than 1,100 entries submitted by health systems, medical practices and other health-based organizations across the country. This year, Oakwood stood out among competitors who had also made improvements in their websites that focused on enhancing visual interest, perfecting navigation, and showcasing key service lines. Videos, audios, virtual tours, social media tie-ins, and calls-to-action now populate many key service sections, according to Mark Gothberg, eHealthcare Leadership Awards chairman.

“In preparation for key provisions of the Affordable Care Act and an increasingly competitive landscape, organizations accelerated their investment in digital communications,” he said. “Organizations made major improvements in their websites, increased their involvement in social media, more fully integrated newer media outlets with traditional marketing vehicles, and expanded mobile efforts to better serve current and future customers.

“As in previous years, competition was especially strong among large hospitals, healthcare systems, physician-focused sites, and managed care organizations,” he added.

Judges looked at how websites and other digital communications compared with others in their organization’s classification. They also reviewed entries based on a proprietary multi-point standard of Internet excellence. The best overall Internet site category, for example, had to pass muster on more than 40 factors. The web sites were rated based on a standard of Internet excellence and how they compared with others in their group classification.

“In this digital age, providing best-in-class website access is vital. Creating an easy-to-use platform with tools provided by our development partners, CareTech and Xby2, Inc., allows Oakwood to publish reliable content with easy access to critical applications and a user-friendly design,” Stanis added.
