Preceptor Program

A Great Beginning

As part of Oakwood's on-boarding support, preceptors are utilized to orient new staff to the nurse's roles and responsibilities, integrate staff into the workplace and work group, and act as a resource and role model. The function of the preceptor is to teach and coach, strengthen character, assure quality, and create opportunities for empowerment.

  • Qualities Needed: The nurse preceptor demonstrates clinical expertise, leadership ability and skills, communicates new information, promotes positive interpersonal communication skills functions as a support person, and encourages orientees to develop to his/her full potential.
  • Procedure: The preceptor candidate completes the Application Form, participates in the selection interview, and attends the Preceptor Workshop.
