Radiation Oncology

At the Oakwood Center for Cancer Care, we don’t just treat cancer. We treat patients with cancer. Accredited by the American College of Surgeons, Oakwood offers a full continuum of radiation oncology services for the treatment of local or advanced malignancies.

Our board certified radiation oncologists evaluate roughly 1,000 new cancer cases per year at two convenient locations. We offer state-of-the-art treatment services that combine the experience of our medical staff with image guided radiation treatment to deliver the precise amount of radiation while eliminating damage to surrounding healthy tissue. Oakwood was one of the first cancer centers in the region to perfect the use of prostate seed implants through ultrasound-guided technology. Over the past decade, Oakwood has pioneered stereotactic body radiation therapy, and now, as a leader in stereotactic radiosurgery, we offer metro Detroit’s only CyberKnife for the non-invasive, painless treatment of tumors in the brain, neck, lungs, liver, pancreas, adrenals, kidneys, retroperitoneum and pelvis.

On a weekly basis, Oakwood multidisciplinary tumor boards, made up of Oakwood medical and radiation oncologists, surgeons, primary care physicians, pathologists, and radiologists, come together with research and support staffs to develop customized treatment recommendations for patients.

State-of-the-art radiation services include:

  • CT-guided 3-D treatment planning
  • State-of-the-art linear accelerators
  • (IMRT) Intensity-modulated radiation therapy
  • (IGRT) Image-guided radiation therapy
  • High dose-rate brachytherapy
  • Radioactive seed prostate implants
  • CyberKnife robotic stereotactic radiosurgery
  • (SBRT) Stereotactic body radiation therapy with active breathing control
