On Saturday October 4th, Oakwood Annapolis Hospital hosted its 18th annual Oakwood Red October Run, providing an overall awesome day for a record 807 registered runners, walkers and “Junior October” kid-milers.
Sunny and slightly cool conditions provided a perfect backdrop for participants, whose race day experiences were also highlighted by beautiful awards, finisher pins and a great prize raffle with lots of great items including Nike chronograph and heart rate monitor watches; Adidas duffels, running gear and more.
The Red October’s legendary post race “Octoberfeast” helped hungry runners and walkers refresh and refuel, serving up a bounty of hot dogs, fruit, bagels, cider and doughnuts along with loads of the feast’s trademark home baked goodies, courtesy of the Oakwood Annapolis Auxiliary.
Runners were pampered and pleased with technology and touches including chip timing and individual water bottles at the finish line. Runners, walkers, juniors and spectators were also treated to tours of the Annapolis Surgery Center and new Birthing Unit along with additional swag. The enthusiasm of a cowbell cheering section lent to the festive race atmosphere undoubtedly helping to inspire the 2008 Oakwood Red October Run winning performances:
