Oakwood Healthcare System is committed to creating an ideal environment for the conduct of exemplary clinical research by providing only the best investigational treatment options for our patients.
As an active participant in a growing network of facilities in Southeastern Michigan participating in clinical research, we work collaboratively with many other research partners such as Wayne State University, The University of Michigan and Beaumont Hospital.
As a leader in Heart and Vascular services, Oakwood has a fully operational Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) program on site, which includes exciting investigational research options. The VAD has been proven as both a bridge to transplant (BTT), providing patients with valuable time until a transplant is available, and also as a long-term or destination therapy (DT) for patients who are not transplant candidates.
As a member of the Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP) the Oakwood Cancer Center partners with St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan to offer of full spectrum of investigational options for our patients seeking therapies for cancer diagnoses.
Oakwood is one of four sentinel sites in Michigan participating in a cancer genomics data collection project sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The study is designed to promote the best practices of cancer genomics through education, policy change and surveillance. Included in this important study, the Oakwood Cytogenetics Department is collecting data and creating program support for those with a hereditary form of breast and ovarian cancer caused by the genetic mutation of BRCA1 or BRCA2.
We are proud of our commitment to research and cutting edge innovation at Oakwood.
