2012 Celebration of Diversity
Posted on 1/17/2012
A Celebration of Diversity and Service, Oakwood’s system-wide, formal observance of the federal holiday honoring Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., took place on Monday, January 16, with a formal program featuring remarks and presentations by Oakwood executives and guests at Oakwood Southshore Medical Center’s Nasir Auditorium. The program was telecast live to our other four major employee sites. Local gatherings at all locations included diverse foods and highlighted the Emergency Clothes Closet service project adopted by employee groups for 2012.
The keynote speaker is Sister Mary Ellen Howard RSM, Executive Director of Cabrini Clinic, the oldest free medical clinic in the nation.
A Celebration of Diversity and Service is the most important annual event recognizing Oakwood’s core value of Diversity. Dr. King’s memory recalls the objective and inclusive principles of the American nation that were the focus of his ministry and that remain an example for all of human civilization. For us who work at Oakwood, it prompts a real appreciation for the global array of peoples, languages and cultures that are our responsibility as a provider, and for each other as the collective face of that same community.
