Vulvar Cancer - Screening Guidelines

Risk Factors

  • Smoking
  • Genital Warts
  • Multiple Sex Partners
  • Diabetes
  • Obesity

Symptoms

  • Lump or Mass
  • Itching
  • Discharge
  • Bleeding
  • Incontinence

 

Ovarian Cancer - Screening Guidelines
Procedure
Recommendations
Bimanual Pelvic Examination Annually including the palpation of the adnexae for sexually active women or those having reached age 18
Pap Smear Annually for sexually active women or those having reached age 18
Tumor Markers (CA-125) Not recommended

Risk Factors

  • Family history of cancer
  • Possibly - use of fertility drugs
  • Advancing age
  • Never having carried a pregnancy
  • North American or Northern European descent
  • Personal history of endometrial, colon, or breast cancer

Symptoms

  • Pelvic or abdominal pain or discomfort
  • Vague, but persistent gastrointestinal upsets such as gas, nausea, and indigestion
  • Frequency and/or urgency of urination in absence of an infection
  • Unexplained changes in bowel habits
  • Unexplained weight gain or weight loss, particularly weight gain in the abdominal region
  • Pelvic and/or abdominal swelling, bloating, and/or feeling of fullness
  • Pain during intercourse
  • Ongoing fatigue
  • Abnormal postmenopausal bleeding (this symptom is rare)
